birthday girls

I never really posted anything about Hazel's birthday so some of that's here as well as stuff that took place between Hazel and Nyla's birthdays, and on Nyla's.

On Hazel's birthday...

This was Hazel's cake. It was raspberry flavored with raspberry icing on the inside and covered with fondant on the outside. The same person made this cake as well as Nyla's princess cake. She also made cute cupcakes that I took to daycare for Nyla's birthday, but I guess the pictures were mysteriously deleted from my camera. Anyway, they had pink, purple and green balloons on them with little fondant Ns stuck in them.

When she opened this, she got so excited as though she knew exactly what it was and it was the present she had been wanting and waiting for. I just wouldn't really expect that from a 1 year old.

This is where things started going south... Hazel got rather sleepy...

And Nyla had some major issues, which included no nap. Poor thing.

So by the time we got to the cake (which wasn't even that late), things were starting to fizzle out.

Nyla got a second wind and I think Hazel was just humoring us here.

She just wasn't too thrilled with the furry dog cake. Actually a little scared at first.

This is about as wild as it got. At one point I even thought there were gonna be some tears.

Quite different from Nyla on her 1st birthday!

Go Nyla!

In between their birthdays... (This is when my parents were here.)

Princess sleeping bag and tent from grandparents...

Scooter from other grandparents...

 More cake

 Hazel enjoying some gifts...

On Nyla's birthday...

She finally got her princess bike. :)

belle of the ball {princess party rundown}

I was pleased with how the cake turned out.

It was really good too.

 Cheese fit for princesses

 Fruit wands

I made this throne for Nyla out of an old lawn chair. I also made the party hats and decorated the plastic goblets. All the purple and pink kinda made me nauseous, but that's what princesses love. ;)

Pin the crown on the princess

 All the little princesses

 The big princesses in charge
Never thought I'd wear this prom dress again. ;)

For an activity the girls decorated flip flops with jewels and ribbon and tulle.

I'm so glad Tyler got this group picture since I totally forgot to get any kind of more formal group picture.

The rainbow cake was inspired by the rainbow cupcakes that Nyla loves to make on her Easy-Bake game on the iPod.

Tyler's role for the party was Lethal Enforcer.

All the girls were so generous and sweet with their gifts.

So... The princess party went very well. Nyla had a blast and I was impressed with how polite and how quiet and patient all the girls were with each other. I hope that all the girls had a good time.

a year in review {part 4}

I'm way behind on birthday stuff I'd like to post, related to both girls, but for now it's time to look at Nyla's past year at a glance...

It's never as crisp when I share it online this way, which is kind of a bummer when you can't see the faces as clearly as you should, but still okay I guess...

Tomorrow (Tuesday, the 17th, Nyla's birthday) is the big princess party we've all been waiting for, so we'll see if I can pull that one off. I will let you know. :)

fryin' on the fourth

Here's a peak at some of the 4th of July festivities that took place at my family's this year (minus the tannerite and other dangerous fireworks stuff!).

The river is really low this year so it's just perfect for Nyla.

The cows were keeping cool upstream from us (downstream would have been better!).

The redneck swing was quite handy.

The redneck shower was also quite handy.

Hazel would not stay on the blanket. She had to be crawling and digging around.

Dad (and Harlan and assistants) fried fresh catfish from the river and zucchini from the garden.

Grandpa Dick fried onion rings and potato chips, also from the garden.

Dani Jo and Uncle Doug

Nyla and Hazel both made it through the fireworks show this year with much success compared to how it's been for Nyla in past years. The protective earmuffs seemed to make a difference this year more than last.
